Daily deadline – good or bad

I am a very goal driven person. I like to make goals and list them out with deadlines and draw great satisfaction from not only reaching the goal but also by checking it off my list. Sometimes though it seems to put undo pressure on me but yet I still feel better having that concrete list of things to tick off. It makes me feel productive when I can cross one more thing off my list.

With my writing I usually have a daily word count goal. If I slack off one day I expect myself to make it up the next. I am interested in knowing how some of the rest of you set goals and stick to them . Writing or otherwise.

I don’t always want to be a line leader

In pre-school all the kiddos get to take a turn at being the line leader. It’s fun for them and I know my daughter, who is a bit bossy, loves to be the line leader. It gives them a sense of importance and being the one in charge, the cool one who gets to lead the line. As an adult I sometimes like to be in charge, the line leader so to speak, but it can be a real drag. It’s nice at times to be a follower. But then if the person you’re following doesn’t do what you want it’s not fun.

Are you a line leader?

Manic Monday

It is half way through the day on Monday and I would like to be able to rewind my day and start from the beginning. Not to have an do-overs but rather to have more time. I was so proud of myself Sunday I took the time and put together my to do list and made sure is was properly prioritized and felt good. I admit it was rather large and I did think for a few minutes that maybe it was a little more than what could realistically be accomplished but I was determined to start this week off right. Now I realize that I was way to optimistic. Or maybe I should have skipped my morning workout and just worked instead.

I don’t know. It always seems as if I have more list than time. Am I slow or do I have too much to do? Am I procrastinating more than I would like to think I am or wasting too much time on facebook and twitter under the guise of marketing and networking?

Be fabulous with me

Ladies admit it. We are all fabulous. But like most things in life being fabulous does require work. If you want to really rock the fabulousness. This thought started when my daughter asked me what I had wanted to be when I grew up back when I was her age (little did she know I’m still not even close to grown up). There were many things I had dreams of being at her age but now when I think of the answer to that question my response it, “the best version of myself.” A while back when I realized that is truly what I wanted to be, “when I grew up” I felt that fabulous was a perfect term to put to that quest. But I want to clarify that I believe we all start out fabulous and just need to continually work on it in order to be the most fabulous I can be. Because while we do all start out with fabulousness it is definitely a skill to increase that level especially in the face of the difficulties life can bring.

Every day I ask myself what I can do today that will make me a better person. It might be something small like have more patience with my children or say no to those McDonalds fries because they won’t help me in my quest to stay healthy. It helps me when I know I am doing something for myself that it going to make me proud of who I am.

Be fabulous with me!

We Stand United by Haseena Patel on Jul.20, 2011

Whenever I look at the contents page of the manuscript of Leave No Girl Behind, excitement bubbles up within me. It’s not because I’m proud of the book that Shameema and I have created, although I am definitely incredibly proud of it. I feel excited because I see how many women, men and children there are who have contributed their words to our book. Each person’s words will impact a girl somewhere to achieve her dreams, or inspire someone to do something to empower girls. In a sacred way, we have all joined hands to support the cause of girls’ empowerment, using our collective energy to inspire change in a big way. And that, I think, is the magic of the whole book. Authors, singers/songwriters, activists, pilots, editors of magazines, women who are in some ways ambassadors for their countries, mothers, fathers, teenagers, and so many others have decided to share in this endeavor to make the world a better place. Hope lives, courage stands strong, and faith outweighs cynicism. We’re building a better future for girls (and for the world population that they will literally one day give birth to) and the thought is both too enormous for words and humbling at the same time.

Brazilian, Hollywood, Bollywood or Rainforest?

Fun post by Anne Davies

Ladies; Listen up…

Let’s talk bikini lines, bushes, beavers and the like

I KNOW that I am not alone in this hair removal nightmare, with all these available methods, you would think that there would be a pleasant treatment that would do its job and bam a smooth, delightful area.

Of course it is different for everyone:

- Blondes tend to have less and lighter public hair. But, this also means less eyelashes and eyebrows.

- Vice-Versa for darker haired ladies.

So, what have we got?

Razors: probably the most convenient of methods, it’s quick and relatively painless. But, depending on your growth if you don’t do it just before Showtime, you will be greeting your partner with itchy, stubbly, raised skin.

Other than shaving lasting only a day, other problems encountered are in grown hairs (ouch), rashes and discomfort. Back in the day I could shave to my hearts content, 15-17 years on and it is not the same story.

I recently was off on a trip and discovered some unsettling lumps downstairs; I rushed to the docs (the day before I was due to fly) and was told that these were… Wait for it… Boils! Disturbing news. What had happened is some ingrown hairs had got trapped and become infected. The doc told me I needed to be careful and that I might have to get them lacerated while I was away. He packed me off with 8 days worth of antibiotics, filled with visions of lacerations.

Exhausted?

Do you ever just get tired? Not so much sleepy but tired, emotionally drained, mentally exhausted, you get the picture. The kind of tired that no amount of sleep is going to make you feel refreshed or no amount of caffeine will wake you up or make you feel better.

How does one get untired (I don’t think that is even a word)from that? Through the power of positive thinking? From faking it until you convince yourself that you’re not tired anymore? Or do you sit and wait for something monumental to happen?

Life should be FUN FUN FUN!!!!!
