Every small town has a season where it stops performing for anybody and just gets to be itself. In Holland Harbor, that season is spring.

The farmers market moves back outside. Porch chairs come out. The whole town scrubs its windows because the tourists are coming, and then the tulip festival fills every last room in town. I put five of those traditions on the blog today, and every one of them ended up in the new book.

Speaking of which.

Carson Waverly is the funniest man in Holland Harbor. He is also a widowed dad who has spent four years telling everyone he is fine. Haley Johnson makes jewelry at the next booth over and has spent her whole life being told her work is just a hobby. When a burst pipe forces them to share one booth for six weeks, Carson's jokes stop landing the way they used to, and his sixteen year old daughter decides she is done pretending along with him.
